Timer

The Timer is your primary tool for tracking work sessions in real-time. Track time accurately, manage breaks, and monitor your productivity with quick statistics—all from one screen.

Timer Interface Overview

The timer screen displays several key elements:

  • Elapsed Duration - Time since the timer started
  • Timer Status - Shows when the timer started (e.g., "Started at 9:00 AM")
  • Break Time - Total break duration during the current session (when paused)
  • Project Selection - Current project with color indicator
  • Quick Statistics - Day, Week, and Month totals below the timer
  • Template Chips - Quick-start buttons for task templates (when creating new task)

Timer States

When no timer is running:

  • Large Start button prominently displayed
  • Project selector shows last used or default project
  • Statistics show accumulated time for current period
  • All-time totals visible at bottom

Running State

When tracking time:

  • Elapsed time updates in real-time
  • Project name and color displayed
  • Pause button to take a break
  • Stop button to end tracking
  • Edit icon to access quick actions

During a break:

  • Break duration shown prominently
  • Resume button to continue working
  • Stop button to end with current break
  • Timer paused indicator

Starting a Timer

Quick Start

  1. Open the Timer tab
  2. Tap the project selector if you need to change projects
  3. Tap Start
  4. Timer begins tracking immediately

Start with Template

If you have Task Templates configured:

  1. Template chips appear below the timer card (when stopped)
  2. Tap a template chip
  3. Timer starts with that template's project, tags, and settings
Template Display

You can hide/show templates on the timer screen from the settings menu (three dots).

Advanced Start (Long Press)

Long press the Start button to open advanced options:

This is useful when:

  • You forgot to start the timer and need to backdate
  • You want to pre-configure task type and rate
  • You're logging a call with a phone number
Plus/Pro Feature

Advanced start options (task type, rate, location) require a Plus or Pro subscription. The custom start time is available to all users.

Background Tracking

The timer continues running even when you switch to other apps, lock your screen, or close the app. Your time is tracked accurately in the background.

Managing a Running Timer

Quick Actions Menu

Quick Actions

While the timer is running, tap the edit icon (pencil) next to the project name:

Taking a Break

  1. With timer running, tap Pause
  2. Break timer starts counting
  3. Take your break
  4. Tap Resume when ready to continue

Break Tracking:

  • Break duration is recorded separately
  • Shows in task's "Pause Time"
  • Affects relative duration calculations

Stopping the Timer

  1. Tap Stop to end the session
  2. Time entry is saved automatically
  3. If "Edit View" is enabled in settings, edit form opens
  4. Otherwise, returns to stopped state

Timer Statistics

The timer screen provides at-a-glance insights into your work through statistics cards.

Duration Card

Shows your accumulated work time:

The card title shows either:

  • Duration - Total time including breaks
  • Duration (rel.) - Work time excluding breaks (based on settings)

Interactive: Tap any period to open the task list filtered to that timeframe.

Salary Card (Plus/Pro)

Shows your accumulated earnings:

The card title shows either:

  • Salary - Total earnings
  • Salary (rel.) - Earnings from work time only (excluding breaks)

Configuring Statistics Display

Access from the three-dot menu (settings icon):

You can show both cards, one card, or neither.

Timer Settings

Configure timer behavior in SettingsTimer:

The timer integrates with iOS features for quick access.

Live Activity

When timer is running:

  • Persistent display on Lock Screen
  • Dynamic Island support (iPhone 14 Pro+)
  • Real-time elapsed time updates
  • Quick action buttons

Home Screen Widget

  • Shows timer status at a glance
  • Tap to open app and control timer
  • Updates in real-time when running

Control the timer from your wrist:

  • Start/stop from watch face

Common Workflows

Focused Work Session

  1. Select your project
  2. Tap Start
  3. Work without interruption
  4. Tap Stop when done
  5. Add description if needed

Work with Breaks

  1. Start timer on project
  2. Tap Pause for lunch/breaks
  3. Tap Resume to continue
  4. Stop when day is complete
  5. All breaks are tracked automatically

Quick Meeting Log

  1. Use a "Meeting" template (if configured)
  2. Timer starts immediately
  3. Add notes via quick actions
  4. Stop when meeting ends

Switching Projects

  1. Stop current timer
  2. Select new project
  3. Start new timer
  4. Previous entry is saved
Don't Forget to Stop

If you forget to stop your timer, you can edit the end time later. The task list shows running tasks prominently, making them easy to find and correct.

Troubleshooting

Timer Stopped Unexpectedly

  1. Check Background App Refresh is enabled (iOS Settings → Timesheet)
  2. Verify battery optimization isn't closing the app
  3. Ensure you're signed in
  4. Check for iOS updates

Timer Not Syncing

  1. Pull down to refresh
  2. Check internet connection
  3. Verify you're signed in
  4. Force close and reopen app

Statistics Seem Wrong

  1. Check the current filter period
  2. Verify project filter isn't applied
  3. Pull down to refresh data
  4. Review task list for missing entries

Can't See Project

  1. Check if project is archived
  2. Verify you have access (for team projects)
  3. Pull down to sync
  4. Create the project if it doesn't exist
